Yeah, I know, politics suck. But here in the grand US-of-A, there will be a House vote tomorrow on an issue I'm very close to: healthcare reform in America. Personally, I'm really hoping the bill is passed because even with insurance, I'm still waiting to be able to afford to see my doctor. I'm in "deferred maintanence" mode, hoping I don't get sick because if I do I'm screwed. The American healthcare system sucks and we need to fix it, now. And here's our chance! So, any Americans on this forum reading this, PLEASE call your House representative and friggin talk to them about this. If you need to find the number and who your house reps are, this page has a handy little form in the corner to find out.

I suppose I've become a bit of a cynic. Oddly obama came in to do the things like green energy infrastructure when I surrendered political activity, although all my prepratory work suggesting ideas could have been a spiritual component in that too. Maybe some day I'll have a new method of political activity. Now though I figure the reps already know what political opinion is. If they don't vote for what's wise and popular, they have other reasons like being bought out by corporations, and nothing I can write will change that.
The biggest change we can make is to go back to enforcing conflict of interest laws. The only way to do that that I can think of is to prohibit both gifts and stock investment for 7 years before and 14 years after a political term. Any stock, because these guys operate by trading favors with each other as well, so if you don't want votes influenced by the insurance industry, none of them can make money from the insurance industry. The other problem is popular vote. If the media is owned by the drug industry and the media expresses no contrary views, guess what the public opinion will be.
My old plan was to just become a billionaire and change everything myself, but I haven't had much of a plan at all lately, not even sure what my project priorities are.

The bill was passed in the House of Representatives! Woot! *dances* But it's not completely settled yet. It'll be the Senate next, yes?

Sometimes both houses try passing their own bills simultaneously, then committees negotiate reconciliation. Either way yes, it has to pass both houses. The senate isn't nearly as keen on this bill as the house. However, as the public accepts this, senators who don't will stand out as unrepresentative.
Unfortunately, as is now, in spite of being health care for all, it's also facism, people forced to pay for a private insurance industry they wouldn't want if they had a choice, and so we're waiting for the real deal, the Kucinich/Conyers bill which allows states to provide socialised non-commercial competiton (the part private insurance will really fight). I don't know how the current bill is written though. Competitive pricing may not even come into the equation.
