Lately I've encountered too many people who hate instant ramen because they don't know how to prepare it properly. These noodles can be delicious if they're made right! So here how I do it.
STEP 1: Fill a pot with enough water to go about half an inch over the ramen, and boil the water.
STEP 2: Put the ramen in the boiling water.
STEP 3: After about three minutes, take a fork and stir up the ramen, breaking it apart. Let it cook two more minutes.
STEP 4: Drain out MOST of the extra water, leaving a few tablespoons so the flavor packet can be mixed in.
STEP 5: Add HALF of the flavor packet. Only add more than half the packet if you really like salt, or if your taste buds are dead.
STEP 6: Add some extra flavor! Figuring out the best flavor mixes is half the fun of cooking Ramen. Here are some of my favorite flavor mixes...
WITH PORK or BEEF FLAVORED RAMEN: Add a little grated ginger root and honey.
WITH ORIENTAL FLAVORED RAMEN: Add a splash of Mirin/Rice wine, a few drops of sesame oil, and a tablespoon of chopped garlic. You can also use a little wasabi, but be careful-- that stuff's hot!
WITH CHICKEN or SHRIMP FLAVORED RAMEN: Pour in a little Tabasco sauce or another hot sauce, and a few drops of lime or lemon juice.
That's the right way to do instant ramen. Go find your own favorite seasonings and flavors... and if you come up with something awesome, please post it here!

That's pretty much how I cook ramen.
I keep frozen salad shrimp on hand to toss in.
Sphagetti sauce, honey, cloves, pineapple, shrimp, cream cheese.
Chipotle, cashews, ginger-mango chutney.
Alfredo sauce, rosemary, dill, canned mushrooms, artichoke hearts.
Most any recipe that works for ramen can substitute rice, angel pasta, or even fried potatos.

Usally i add aprox 500cc water, some of the stuff in the packets(fat, spice), and let it boil. then i eat whatever crumbs there are, and beat an egg with soysuace + balsamic. When the water boils, i add ramen and stir, wait till it's almost done then add the egg =]

Ooooh. I gotta try that... 500cc? Metric? I'll have to look up a conversion...
EDIT: I just tried it and it was yummy! But I had to exchange balsamic for sesame oil.

Not the same thing. So basically you're making a ramen version of birds nest soup. should be good to add onions & shrooms to.

Don't go looking up conversions. Just recall that a quart is nearly a liter and remember that a 12oz soda can is 355ml (if you recycle there's usualy one around until you do remember). So a half liter is just over two cups. What I am saying though is that it's way easier to think in metric than to think in English and convert.
The rule of conversions is that units cancel (nominator/denominator). Thus 500ml/1 x 12oz/355ml = 500*12*ml*oz / 355ml = 500*12oz/355 (ml/ml cancels) = 16.9oz
16.9oz x 1cup/8oz = 2.11*oz*cup/oz = 2.11cups. Do your math with the units included so that ending up with the correct units after cancelling serves as a double check that you didn't get a conversion factor upside down.
