Dang, adventure time is gone already.
Charlie unicorn was awesome. I had one of those laughs were every few seconds you let out a laughing groan and bury your head, nearly to tears. I had just been talking a couple hours ago with a friend about about a guy who had his kidney stolen at an asylum, and the whole china thing under increasing world protest these days.
So what did I miss?

Aww, you didn't watch "I'll Slaughter the World"? It's actually rather well done.

No, I saw that one. I liked Charlie better. Slaughter didn't have any story. Adventure Time was the one that was deleted already. Was it that objectionable?

Adventure time was fun. This is the sort of stuff Kpbinkie the Frog would get lost in. I wonder if people still make money making such stuff since YouTube came along. Yeah, that was more offensive Peanuts than I was expecting. A Colt-45 ad apparently, and tons of coffee. I don't think I'll quote from it.
Look, it's a leoplurisaur.

Oh God. I assume that must be genuine. I seem to recall that that's actually not too unlike where cartoons of the 50's were heading before there was a reformists movement against violence which made everything pretty docile by the 70's.
That Ren and Stimpy was a clear example of what I meant by German Expressionist origins. The horse fumbling for a hand-gun with hooves, that was too much.
I'm suddenly missing the theater experiences I had as a kid. The drive-ins were way cooler than the theaters. One brought blankets and all sorts of things to eat (of course they had snack bars too), drove the car over the humps to get the best viewing angle, listened to crappy sound on a speaker you clipped to your window. The indoor theaters were larger too. In the 60's screens were cut into four seperate theaters to play more smaller movies. They had things like curved screens where you had to pan your head from left to right to see everything. I loved the format. Just at sunset they played a warner brothers cartoon which got the kids out of the playground back to the cars, then they played a spectacular Buena Vista (Disney) nature documentary which always started with a painting becoming a photo landscape, then the two features, sometimes with a cartoon between them (probably to keep the kids occupied while the parents went to the snack bar.) Historically, they were the ultimate place for dates, but they were mostly gone, or I was married, by the time I had a reliable car. Even then, I went once in awhile, come to think of it.
I think they dissapeared because property became too expensive, but I see no reason they can't still have drive-in screens on the roofs of commercial parking garages, when most traffic has gone home anyhow. On the other hand, cars aren't quite as cool to hang out in anymore either. They used to be quite spacious inside, suitable for picnics and hide-n-seek games.

There's something that resembles a drive-in at a local book store. They have a huge lawn out back and they show movies projected onto the wall. It's not quite the same thing, but... *shrug*
